Lowe Alpine DryFlo… The Legend Returns

Lowe Alpine DryFlo is back. And it’s better than ever.

DryFlo is a baselayer technology that first hit the market in the early 2000s to universal acclaim. Its superb wicking, cooling and odour-resistant properties came at an affordable price, and were appreciated across the board by professional bodies and customers alike. Sadly, due to the various financial troubles experienced by Lowe Alpine over the past decade, with it’s former owner Aspen battling to cut costs, DryFlo, along with all Lowe Alpine Apparel, ceased production in 2011.

But thankfully this is not the end of the story. Under the new ownership of Equip, production of Lowe Alpine Apparel has resumed. DryFlo is back, and it’s better than ever!

New DryFlo is similar soft, stretch polyester fabric as before, with a very open weave resulting in a wide surface area. The benefits of this are twofold:

  1. A wide surface area equates to faster evaporation, and therefore better sweat removal and temperature control.
  2. Spaces between fibres trap a great deal of air when worn as a baselayer, resulting in excellent insulating properties.

These properties make it every bit as good as before, but there’s a few additions that make it even better:

  1. Cocona technology’: in non-Lowe Alpine-jargon, that’s particles produced from the husks of carbonised coconuts. This acts to increase surface area still further, resulting in accelerated dry-time and increased UV protection. As it is a by-product of coconut production, it’s also sustainable!
  2. Lowe Alpine’s ‘Microban’ anti-microbial treatment, which discourages the growth of bacteria and combats odour. Lowe Alpine claim that DryFlo garments will retain their odour-resistant properties for the lifetime of the garment – pretty impressive.

DryFlo is available in two fabric weights -120 and 150, for use across a wide temperature range (the 150 being the thicker of the two).

You can get DryFlo garments in a number of variants on the baselayer theme, including the DryFlo Pants (ankle-length tights), DryFlo Zip Top, DryFlo LS Top (crew neck), DryFlo SS Top (T-shirt), and DryFlo Boxer. It’s available for Men and Women, so there’s no gender divide when it comes to experiencing the benefits of DryFlo.
